As firms dither, the $30trn global commercial-property market is stalked by fears of a deeper slump.And while some workers dream of a Panglossian future without commutes and Pret A Manger, others wonder about the threat to promotions, pay and job security.workplace 字面上是 work（事情）+place（地方），也就是指“事情场所”routine 意思是“通例；例行法式”conformity 意思是“遵守，遵从”，其动词是conform，常跟介词to/with搭配landlord 字面上是land（土地）+lord（主，上帝），也就是指“田主；老板”work out 是个动词词组，在这里意思是“找……的谜底；解决”，固然它另有“磨炼身体；盘算，算出”的意思。

obsolete 意思是“过时的，淘汰的”radically 意思是“完全地”，radically different 就是“完全差别的”back 这里可以明白为“支持”work from home 这个短语就表现疫情期间我们常说的“在家办公”，与下文名词 home-working 同义。pure 意思是“纯粹的，完全的”dither 意思是“犹豫不决”trn 指trillion，也就是‘万亿，兆’stalk 意思是“偷偷靠近”，这里可以明白为，对暴跌的恐惧悄然而来。slump 意思是‘大幅下降，暴跌’dream of 是个动词词组，意思是“梦想”Panglossian 意思是“太过乐观的”commute 意思是“通勤；上下班旅程”Pret A Manger 是一家位于英国的三明治连锁店，险些是伦敦上班族的食堂；在这里意思是说，一些事情者梦想着未来不用外出上下班，也不用在外面事情食堂用饭（也就是想在家办公用饭）。
